First, forget the stick welder. I suppose with the right combination it will 
work effectively, but MIG is the thing. If you are filling holes, learn about 
copper spoons.

Second, what I do is sign up with the local "Voke" school for "adult ed". It 
is $110.00 for 11 weeks. They have the best equipment (I have my own mig, but 
they have Petco machines for bending, sand blasting cabinets that will take a 
wheel, etc) and you don't even have to clean up after yourself. They let me 
bring my car in and I bring my own 110 volt rig because they are not geared for 
sheet metal that thin. Despite what I said about the "best equipment" I have 
been known to bring my own air compressor because their huge compressor never 
seems to be working.
