Hi,
You can likely get to the connection between the manifold and the
exhaust piping from under the car. It may be possible to get the
drivers side from the top since the manifold exits out the back but the
passenger side will have to be done from the bottom. Not hard but you
may need a few universal joints in the socket set.
I did mine like that a few months ago and it was not too bad.
btw, I would keep the poly or if it is too much time and money to
rebuild, go for the 360. It can be difficult to find a big block 62-65
tranny and a big block engine. The small blocks will work just fine.
If you are going for a resto type of car then you should keep the poly.
If just for enjoying, then you can decide since the 360 and the 318 are
doable in a small budget. The Big block installation (although cool) is
more money and hassle to obtain (tranny, engine, motor and tranny
mounts). You stated that you have a year and want the car driveable.
You have a few important decisions to make. Let us know what you
decide.
