Keith Black recommends a .0020-0025 piston to wall clearance on their 
Hypereutectic 215 pistons when used as a carbureted street car. As a drag car they 
recommend .0020-.0045.   These are minumum and maximum clearances.  Ring gaps 
should be set at .0065" per 1" of bore on the street car and .0075" per 1" of 
bore on the drag car.  If you split the difference, say .0070 per 1" of bore, 
and you are running a .030 over 400 piston (4.37"), it should look like this: 
4.37x.0070=.030.

KB also says:  "Excessive spark advance, lean fuel mixture or too much 
compression for the fuel and cam used will make heat sufficient to butt piston rings 
as much as .060 ring end gap."  This is from their brochure in the 215 piston 
box.
