One more story: My first mopar was not my first car, but it is part of an interesting story. Growing up, my uncle was a ford mechanic, so you kind of know what I starting out driving. In high school in the mid sixties I drove a '56 ford club sedan 292 auto, and raced a '53 ford mainline coupe (flathead) at the drags on weekends. In 1968 I found a black '62 Polara 500 hardtop for sale and had to have it. I sold the '56 ford for $500 and paid $650 for the Polara. I loved that car, my uncle hated it and wouldn't work on it! Funny thing, I met my wife that same year, she was driving a '62 rose beige Chrysler Newport. Love at first site! Don Vermillion 62 Polara 500 convertible -----Original Message----- From: Gary B. I bought my first car on my 16th birthday in 1960. I saved up for two years from my paper route and came up with $135.00. My dad took me car hunting and we found the prettiest 1947 Plymouth business coupe in the world. It had new black paint and red leatherette interior and wide portawalls( you youngsters won't know what those were.) The flathead six had a milled head.(It ran 21.00 flat) The car was $150.00 and I didn't have enough money. We started to leave and I think my dad saw the tear in my eye and loaned me the $15.00 to buy it. I have been a moparhead ever since. Sorry for the long post but it brought back good memories.
