Re: Purchased Dual Exhaust

I installed the 3" pipes off Doug Thorley (not Doug's) headers myself. Since TTI does not (did not) make a connector to the Thorleys, I had a muffler shop cut and weld the left side connector so it would work. Other that that, great fit. I used the Dynomax super turbo muffler - a little noisy but with over 400 HP, what would you expect?

The set for the Satellite will be here in a week or so. It's a 2 1/2" with the same muffler. My wife wants it to sound like my 2004 Concorde but that is not going to happen. I hope it's no where as load as the Belvedere. The cast iron manifolds, 2 1/2" pipe and less radical stock cam should get it down to reasonable levels. I'll let you know how it goes.

This is quite a timely post for me as I'm thinking of going this route as
well.
I had my 361 rebuilt last fall and I had a slot at the local engine dyno
shop two weeks ago but canceled it. When I went to put the old manifolds
back on they were filthy so I took them to a local engine shop and had them
baked and blasted. They offered to mag them for me and when they did, I had
stress cracks on both between ports, 3 on one side and 5 on the other. Big
sand piles! I didn't want to dyno the engine and tune it to the old cast
iron manifolds if I couldn't run them so I canceled. What's the point in
tuning to these if your going to change to headers? You'd have to tune the
whole thing again, maybe jets, right?
TTI is so expensive but they really seem to be the best. I have a set of
Thorleys and copper gaskets but I'm not sure of the fit in my 65 Belv2.

Are yours in yet? Who did the install? What pipes and mufflers are you
using?
H pipe? Flowmasters? Coatings? How's the weather?

Subject: Purchased Dual Exhaust

I had posted a question earlier on this topic and here's what I decided to buy for my wife's '65 Satellite convertible 383/TF car. Simply stated, I bought the 2 1/2" TTI system for my exhaust manifold car. Cost $457 and about $30 for shipping (half price.)

I have a 3" system on my '65 Belvedere and it's a great fit. I did not
go to LTD because their price was higher at $602, there were no
experiences relayed to me about them and, frankly, I was miffed because
it look like they jacked up their prices from the website for what
should have been a $450 purchase. The two sited off the shelf shops,
Kepich and Waldron, had negative experiences related to me. And, I was
concerned if the custom shops could make a clean appearing set, bang up
the paint and be a PITA to get the car to and from for the shop. I
probably spent an extra $150-200 on the TTIs but I know what I'm getting.

I'm trying to find a reasonably priced exhaust system for my wife's
383 powered '65 Satellite. I don't think the $600 prices from
Accurate LTD and TTI qualifies as reasonably priced. I'm only looking
for a factory style 2 1/4" system, not an NOS or 3" pro-street system.

Has anyone gone to the local muffler shops and had one custom made?
How was the workmanship and cost?
Are there other suppliers out there? Thanks.
