Jim, My choice of oil is Driven brand synthetic 10w-30w or 10w-40w depending on bearing clearances and/or lifter bore sleeve design/clearance in certain roller cam applications. A synthetic oil will appropriate ZDDP in the formula for flat-tappet cams is superior to any conventional oil in the realm of lubricity, asphaltene absorption, high temperature tolerance, and wear-protection of internal engine parts. That being said, any conventional oil with a ZDDP additive is fine for most all HP engines, flat-tappet or roller, but for those 500+ builds, a synthetic in the proper weight will be the best choice. Gary P. From: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of Jim Altemose Gents, I'm sure this has been beaten to death over the years. But I'll open the can of worms anyway. A friend who just got a 1968 Z28 asked my opinion and I myself have different notions in my own head, but it's a relevant question for our old cars. What do you use for oil in an older high performance engine? I use synthetic with a Zinc additive. But who says I'm right? I've heard Rotella and other things as well. I'm interested in your opinions. Thanks. - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY -- -- -- Please address private email -- email of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
