--Thanks everyone for all of the great information. I will go with the synthetic transmission fluid and put fluid in the torque converter before attaching the transmission.I will jumper the transmission cooler lines and try one of the cups on the tail shaft. I was aware that it should be in neutral to circulate fluid. Thanks AgainDennis C.

Subject: 727 Transmission Questions
Hello,
I have a 727 out of a mid 70's pickup that I have questions about:
It is completely drained including the torque converter. What transmission fluid would you recommend?
I need to start and check the 318 that it will be attached to before it goes in the car. Even though it did have transmission fluid in it a few years ago should I pour fluid in the converter before attaching the transmission?
Last question I want to start the engine and run it with the transmission attached but no driveshaft. Will I be OK just using one of the plastic cups that go in the tail shaft to keep fluid from leaking out?
Thanks
Dennis C.
