I have noticed a leak under my car and jacked it up to investigate.
Fluid is red and dripping from near the rear of the transmission.
I crawled under the car and wiped the fluid off the surrounding area
and let it set over night.
This morning it was more apparent where the fluid was leaking from.
I discovered that my speedometer cable has been repaired/patched.
Someone used copper and crimped it around the cable -- maybe to
patch a defective section of the outer cable.
The transmission fluid is leaking out of the patched area (about a foot from the end)
and traveling down the cable and then dripping on the floor.
Not knowing much about speedometers and transmissions -- my question is:
Is it normal for transmission fluid to enter into the speedometer cable?
If so, seems like a patch on the cable is a temporary fix and the cable
needs to be replaced.
Any one know a source for a NOS or repopped speedometer cable?
Thanks,
Doug
