Congrats Steve,After you get the package optimized could you make a pass with the engine drawing underhood air to verify the gains from a fresh air intake system? Inquiring minds want to know!MikeOn Mon, Sep 11, 2017 at 12:49 AM, Cornpatch......MO <steve...@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Back in the day , a dual point ignition was the hot set up. Forward 20 years and I used an Accel electronic dist . right out of the box....advance curve? what is that? big ole yellow Accel coil. Forward another 25 +years, out to lunch-- with performance engines. Now with my first big block Mopar, new learning experiences.--Some of you may remember my 3000+ RPM launches which resulted in engine killing bog, broken driveline, to much traction-problems , carb. problems-- enough to PO the Pope. I was advised" get the ignition right before anything else". but I am stubborn. I had single point stock Mopar rebuilt dist . and stock coil. That combo USED to work OK with chebbies. SO, bit the bullet and installed Pertronix III point to electronic conversion , and Pertronix stock looking 40,000 volt coil. See?----to stubborn to use the Mopar electronic dist . and orange box. Installed the FBO Systems advance limiter plate, and their advance weight springs kit. Took my dist. to a friend who has a bench set up machine , and experimented. We settled on : 36 degree limit total advance with 18 degree mechanical, , 8 degree vacume, and 10 degree initial advance. New spark plugs @ .045 gap.WOW ! I can't believe how much better the performance is. Just the ignition tune solved all my other problems. Brutus will light the tires up now, and has proven that the sure grip is working as it should. Now I need to work on getting ENOUGH traction ! Now a firm believer in importance of getting the ignition right.-first thing.Paul L ,, Am I remembering right on the 7.90 ET? I think that translates to a 12.50 quarter mile? ...................................MO
