OK, let the harassment begin. I'm probably opening myself up here but I did promise to update everyone when I had a chance to mess with it. Between weather and travel I didn't get the car in the air until this weekend and mostly because the starter gave up. That's another story I won't get into here.Pulled the fill plug and dipsticked (little finger) the 833 trans. Nothing. Pulled a partial bottle of gear lube out and pumped it in, along with the obligatory leakage on me and the garage floor. Nothing. Went to the parts store and bought more of this liquid gold. 2 1/2 quarts later I finally had contact. Drove it about 5 miles and guess what? Sqeakless!I appreciate all of the suggestions and long distance diagnosis. That's what this group is about, right? Especially grateful to Herb for pointing me in the right direction. Herb, Gut reaction to that question was to dismiss it, of course its full.............but come to think of it, I added lube a couple of years ago when I put the drivetrain together on the garage floor and now, no I'm not sure any more. Trans is quiet and shifting fine but to your point, that bushing and seal are higher than the reservoir (case) and rely on fluid getting splashed into the cluster and travelling back along the output shaft. If it isn't completely full that could be the only symptom. I'll get the car in the air this weekend and check. If that's it I'm going to feel awfully dumb but some things are just worth it. That bushing gets lubed by the product of choice you use in the tranny. I'm sure you have lube in the transmission? It also has a chromoly driveshaft good for 1200 hp and a scatter shield. The rear trans housing has a bushing inside that surrounds the rear trans output shaft to keep everything aligned and a seal on the outside that the front of the driveshaft yolk slips into. It's that seal and the yolk that are setting up the squeal when the lube wears off. The noise transfers to the driveshaft and gets broadcast out. I was hoping that someone had experienced this and found a lube that was a permanent solution. I appreciate everyone's ideas.

It's a chevy thing, it started at about 60k and they said the tranny was toast. That was 3 years ago and the truck has 145k now, still makes the noise, still drives fine. It's a pinion bearing for the first gear and the noise echos off the hollow drive shaft so it seems the noise comes from the driveline, but it's the tranny.Let us know what the cause is.Eric

You sure it's the yoke and not the U joint? A dry joint will squeak & squeal in a second. Lube the U joint or replace it. Depending on how mechanical you are, if their is no zerk to lube the U joint, just drill an appropriate size hole in the center of a cap and screw a self tapping zerk in and lube the joint.-------Original Message-------Question for the group.Since the first day I drove my Plymouth after getting it running, I've had an annoying squeal from the front driveshaft yolk spinning inside the rear transmission seal. Before you start, yes it does it even when my wife isn't in the car.I've pulled the shaft out many times and lubed it with moly grease, lithium, dry powder lube, machine oil, even WD40. Goes away for a couple of days and then starts again. Pulled into a car show at low speed and overheard one guy say, "It even comes with it's own sound effects". Driving me nuts.
