Every once in while we go through this exercise....this filter is junk....that one is best....geez...I've used FRAM filters since I got into cars, many, MANY years ago...never had a filter-related problem!!!

....oops, sorry I did have one....I tried to put +120PSI oil pressure through a FRAM filter once, and guess what...it blew off the mount.

Anyway, any mods that happen to be around; can we nix this thread before it get into the usual "pi$$ing" match????

I had read an article from an former Fram engineer relaying how horrible their QC was. I've always used Wix or Purolator ever since. I've seen several tests that rank them #1 & #2 in terms of QC, filtration, etc.  Just my personal preference.

Hi Mo!

It is my understanding that the black area on Fram filters is a non skid surface to help spin 'um off! Especially if you have a petite mechanic like Nick!

What brands zinc & phosphorous (ZDDP) additives are you guys using at every oil change, if any?

I have a mild cam on the shelf from Gary P.  (.435 lift x 256 duration by Schneider Cams vs stock .390/.400 lift x 240 duration).  It came with Schneider Cams break-in ZDDP additive and cam lube ZDDP assembly paste, which got me thinking if running Rotella T diesel engine oil is enough, even after break-in.

Been reading a bit to determine if running Rotella T is enough for even a stock to mild flat tappet Poly.  Contrary to some beliefs, the latest CJ-4 rated Rotella T does still have 1,200+ ppm ZDDP.  This can be seen in virgin oil analysis on sites like Bobistheoilguy.

This site, while clearly a marketing tool for their ZDDP product - explains in clear language the need for ZDDP - and why diesel engine oil may not be the best choice.
