thought I would offer the group my possible solution:
a. Buy a 440 cast flex plate.
b. weld up the six holes.
c. machine the welds flat and redrill holes to proper alignment from a 440/400 template
e. Finish engine build up.
Reason for this possible solution: would have to completely rebuild a different engine (440 or 400), the marine engine only has 10 hours on it since complete rebuild.
Open to thoughts/suggestions.
Thanks in advance

Jim,
You are qualified to be a deckhand !! Yes, that is correct; they are
referred to as inboard turning wheels (propellers). If both propellers
turned in the same direction it would almost be impossible to steer the
boat. I have seen the clutches on same direction turning engines rigged up
backwards. In other words; one engine in forward gear and the other engine
in reverse gear when both controls are in the forward position. (requires
different propeller pitch..different lesson)

I think the "reverse" direction engine is one that was used in a 2-engine
boat. Single engine marine 440s spun in the same direction as their land
yacht counterpoints.

Thanks,
