The 1964 Barracuda had either a 225 cu in slant six or a 273 cu in V8. No V8 bigger than 273 was available as a special order in 1964.
Let me try to recap where I think you are. You have a 1964 Plymouth Belvedere "B" body with a Poly 318. The transmission is a cable-operated 904. You can't get the push buttons to work with the 904. You are putting bucket seats in the Belvedere. So that opens up the possibility of using a console floor shift instead of using the push buttons.
If I got that right, then you can probably use any 727 TorqueFlite you find behind a LA engine (273, 318, 340, 360) from 1966 up. Then you can put in a aftermarket floor shift and have a custom driveshaft made.
http://www.allpar.com/mopar/torqueflite.html has a history of the TorqueFlite transmission you can check out.
Thanks,
Gary H.
