There are a couple of advantages, the first is the pump is running in fuel and that helps keep the pump cool, in most vehicles it also reduces or eliminates the sound of the fuel pump and being in the fuel priming or loss of prime is not a problem.

However having said that I would not be looking if I were not replacing the fuel tank due to leaks.  I just thought that if I was going to buy a new tank and one was available with an in-tank fuel pump it would be a good time to make the change.  I can drop the tank myself if I ever needed to replace the pump.

I have a rotary electric fuel pump now and it makes a lot of noise.  On the road no problem, exhaust and wind noise cover it up but in town it can get old.

Just a shot in the dark about the in-tank fuel pumps.

I heard this some while ago: "No matter how cynical I get, I just can't keep up!".
So, out there in the real world, why is an in-tank fuel pump better than an inline one?

I have been doing a Google search to see if a retrofit sending unit with fuel pump for our tanks is available or if anyone makes a retrofit fuel tank and so far I have not found anything.  If anyone has any thoughts or information on in-tank fuel pumps it would be appreciated.
