As far as I know they still have both the cork and the rubber gaskets. I think they send the cork ones in the full kits and I had to order the rubber ones.  I think it's the same part number but without the "R" or "VR"  And I prefer the rubber too.  I do put some black liquid Aviation sealer on the gasket.  I think how you tighten it is significant too.  I snug up the bolts hand tight and then push the valve cover up and to the front as far as possible before I finish tightening it.  That seems to help.  They move quite a bit when doing this.
