Douglas, I don’t want to put anybody down but if your mechanic didn’t know this problem was the ballast resistor, find yourself a new mechanic or at least one that knows  Mopars. An extra ballast resistor in the glove box is just as important as a spare tire for anybody who has an old Mopar.

My '64 Sport Fury is still cranking but when the key is returned to the "run" 

position the car dies.

 

A local mobile mechanic diagnosed it as a electrical/wiring problem.  

 

He says I have power in the "crank" position but the power is being completely 

cut off when the ignition returns to the "run" position.

 

He said replace the ignition, I did -- still no start.

 

He says if new ignition doesn't solve the problem there is a short or open connection 

in blue wire between the ignition switch and out to the coil.

 

When he wired the coil directly to the battery the car starts up normally!

 

What is the best way to find a short?  Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the 

entire wire following it from the ignition to the coil?
