Went racing last night, did four runs, and could not get the engine to rev past almost exactly 5000 RPM in any gear. I did swap out the Chrome ignition box with a used orange box for the third run and got stuck around 3000 RPM. Another clue, maybe. When I was setting the timing before the second timing, fuel came shooting out of the primary vent tube on the carb – I noticed this happened when I let off the throttle after taking the engine to 3500 to check the timing. Pulled the front bowl off and cleaned it out. I do plan to pull the carb and clean it out. On the last run, with the chrome box reinstalled, I start having a lack of acceleration around 3,000. However, when I lifted a bit on the throttle, the car would begrudgingly accelerate and I could slowly add more throttle that would increase the acceleration rate but still couldn’t get up to 5000 RPM. Any suggestions from these clues? The Mo-Power event is coming up Mid-September and I want to have a good showing (at least not shoot ducks as I run down the track). I think if I can solve this problem, my goal of a sub-12 second run can be realized then.
