Re: firing order and spark plug wires

OH...#1 at TDC, you can take a valve cover off and see where the valves set, you can pop out your dist to see where it sits, OR you can put the #1 wire to the left of the front most clip and put the rest of the wires on 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 (going counter clockwise like the photo I sent) and see if it runs.  If it does not run, they are just 180 degress off and then number one starts where #6 would be and you just go from there...1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

The easy way to chage out spark plug wires so you don't even have to think about it is 1 wire at a time.  I've done it where I just yanked them all off too, I've had this book for 35 years, my grandfather had it before me.  Covers domestics from 1953-1964. It's the Glenn's New Auto Repair Manual.  Been a wonderful book to have around.  I wore out the first one, I'm on my second one.

For a Dist in the front it's counter clockwise, mounted in the rear it's clockwise....not sure when the change from clockwise to counter clockwise.  As far as I know all front mounted dist are counterclockwise.  But I've only played with 61-65's mopars....mostly.

Thanks for the photo, Eric.

How odd, my book says the firing order always goes clock wise (around the distributor)
but the diagram shows counter clockwise.

I took a photo from my book.  Should work for you.

I replaced my distributor cap and unplugged all the wires (without marking them).
Thought I had a diagram of how to replace them.

I have the firing order, but in what order do I plug the spark plug
wires back into the distributor cap?

Thanks,
Doug
