Sounds like it's turning over strong? Unplug wire from distributor and hold near something metal and grounded like a bolt head. Are you getting a spark? If not, maybe coil or ballast resistor. You can briefly bypass the wires on the ballast resistor to check it. Are you getting a spark at the plug wire tips? If not, could be distributor. Open distributor and look for cracks, dirt, wear on the contacts; anything unusual. Make sure rotor metal is solid and not burned through. Like Jimmy says, if you're getting a good spark, pouring some gas down the carb should run until it burns that fuel. If you pump the accelerator linkage by hand and look down the throat of the carb, you should see it squirt. - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY '63 Polara 500 (Max Wedge) '63 Polara 500 (383) '65 Belvedere I (Street Wedge) '71 Bronco On Wed, Jul 25, 2012 at 10:37 PM, Douglas Sutherland <pluckedchickens@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Went for a nice long drive, came home and parked in my driveway. > Later, attempting to back her into the garage for the night, she wouldn't > start. > > I thought the carb was flooded so I pushed the gas pedal down to the floor > and she almost started but as soon as I let off the gas pedal the engine > died. > > Let her sit for an hour.
