Re: Looks like she might be gone

Well thanks Loring. I'm not currently a member of any other lists. I'm a member of moparforums.com but that's about it, well and straightrazorplace.com cause there's nothing like a clean straight razor shave! Lol

I'm really gonna be looking for a 62 Chrysler, in good condition, that's what I've always really wanted, fell in love with the body style. But I can't lie, I love all the early Mopars, so my eye will be on the lookout for a good deal. I think I'll build my fence but landscaping can wait, there's cars that need attention and a 400 I've been meaning to pick up from Gary! :)

Hey Jacob
I know from my website the interest in collector cars in europe. In many circles there Mopars are the elite of the muscle cars there. My buddy in Orlando kept in touch with the guy that bought his Challenger and this was way before the internet and email. Back then cell phones came in a bag and were like a brick. My wife grew up in New Orleans but moved to Ga. 25 years ago. I lived in Orlando for 35 years prior to evecuating to Ga. for hurricane Charlie where we met. Currently we live in Oxford Alabama half way between Birmingham and Atlanta. My 62 W-300 is a former Orlando Fire Truck and my 65 D-200 is a former USDA fire chief truck from Alabama. When I was growing up my family (uncles and grand fathers) all owned Chryslers so I grew up around 60"s mopars. I had an uncle that owned a paving company with a fleet of 62 D-500 dump trucks. (new at the time) so that dates me, My wifes 2 oldest kids live in New Orleans near their dad. We visit on occasion. My wife wants to be kept up on your next project as do I. Not many younger guys are into the imports and we are very impressed that you have the appreciation for the old Mopars you do. Hope to hear more on the next project.Aor you on any other lists?

They actually came by today. Super nice people, took some pics, I took them for a test drive. They were happy with it, so I get a call from mr. Olaf and he gets super excited and wants to buy it. Man I really hate too. Supposedly it's gonna take the car 6 weeks to get to him from here, and cost the same amount as car. I think it's pretty neat it's making such a journey. He wants to stay in touch and email back and forth. Says maybe in a year or so if I get another maybe he can buy another from me, or if I want a european car haha. He had some requests that if I had any old car magazines laying around if I was wanting to get rid of to put in car lol. It's very interesting to talk to someone in a different world, there's definitely a barrier, he often has to translate some words or doesn't understand something I say. I said "sounds good" one time and his response was "what de sound Goode mean". I told him it was like saying okay, and his response was "oh okay, I see, that sounds...very...Goode." haha

About what you were saying Loring about the European American car collectors, the lady I met with today said that having an old American car over there is kind of a status symbol. Olaf also told me he's never seen a American car without an "oil spot" under it lol. I was in new Orleans last weekend do y'all still live there?

Jacob,

I would suggest having several of your friends accompany you when you meet this person or persons...as it is good to have company when dealing business with strangers.

Hey Jacob
Usually scammers do not negotiate at all and nobody ever looks at the car. They offer to pay the asking price and send the shipping money that you are supposed to "foward" to the shipping company along with a "bonus " for your trouble.. Sounds legit to me especially with somebody wanting to inspect the car and pay cash. And they will do the shipping etc. A friend of mine in Orlando sold his Challenger clone RT to a guy in Belgium and it went like your sale is going and it was very good for all. There is a lot of classic American car collectors in Europe and spend the money for what they want. What are you going o look for to replace it?? My wife (from New Orleans) is disappointed you are selling the 880 so keep us informed of the replacement OK.

Craziest thing happened these last few days. Got a call from a guy in Germany, named Olaf, about my dodge 880 for sale. Talked to the guy for about 20 min, he has some family that lives about an hour from me, and was looking for something around them mid 60s to ship to Germany. Thinking it was a scam or something I didn't pay any attention to it and went on my way.

He kept calling over a few days so I finally answered and wanted to see if he was real. I asked a bunch of questions. Turns out he's a car collector, of sorts. His brother and his wife are coming to look at my car Monday, and once they approve, since he's already hapoy with all the pictures and info I've sent, they will pay me cash money. The car will then be driven back to Lafayette, then a shipping company will take car to new Orleans to the port to ship to Germany. I couldn't believe the price of shipping a car overseas, 5000 or 6000 dollars.

He's sent me a lot of pictures of the cars he has now. Some nice old Mopars too. A Plymouth fury, coronet, some darts. All mid 60s. He recently sold a couple and is looking for a nice 4 door to enjoy with his kids. My car was in his price range with shipping, and he's been looking for a while.

I'm still very skeptical about it, just seems with all the scammers etc these days you can't really believe anyone. Why I was surprised when he said his brother will pay me with cash. The family contacted me about meeting and I'm definitely not gonna meet at my house just in case LOL. We shall see what this turns out to be. We did negotiate a little lower than what I was originally asking, another sign this may be real? Who knows. But I ain't signing or doing anything unless I got some
Green in my hands :) just thought I'd tell this story.
