There is lots of value in installing one.  Less chance of burring the whole car to the ground if you get a good short in the wiring.  There is nothing wrong with 50 year old wiring...except that it's 50.  I'm installing 2 in my car.  They are cheap and east to put in.  Who knows it could save the whole car one day.
