Yes they are different. Another approach is to grab a complete stock Mopar electronic ignition system from a Mopar in a junkyard or from a swap meet vendor. That is "good/functional" certainly. The other "modern" tactic is to use the Pertronix and other brands type of electronic retrofit to your car's distributor.
