Re: Leaf spring rearch questions

List

In addition to my 65 sat i have a later year B-body that had extras leafs added to
the springs limited only by the length of the U-bolt.

The only negative result is handling on severely wash boarded roads. It feels like the rear
axle bounces off the top of the humps.

The car now corners flatter..with or with out the sway bar.

At the strip the car rotates hard around the rear axle and with 90/10 shocks would lighten the front enough you could feel the flutter when the front wheel bearings unloaded.

The car would leave straight as an arrow...town and highway driving is probably more firm
than stock...but I don't care.

Ride height is unchanged to my eye..or it is now correct...take your pick.

Yes, they added a leaf. As to whether it's a rougher ride, not that I
can tell. But I also added new tires and shocks at the same time.
And I'm not very in tune with senses ;)

Thanks for the good info Jim. Unfortunately the 1963 Dodge was already up on jack stands so I did not measure
before I took the leaf springs off. I did take a couple pictures so I could remember where those tabs on the shackles pointed.

It's clear to me that these are the original springs and they were pretty level with the car weight on them. So, if I get the springs re-arched back to stock specifications it will certainly raise the car.

Jim, did the shop add a leaf to make the car rise? That raises the car but makes the ride rougher, doesn't it?

I'm also looking into ESPO Springs& Things for new ones as another option.

Thanks,
Gary H.

I had my springs re-arched last spring (no pun intended). I'm sure
finding the right shop is key. I measured from the ground to the top
of the wheel well. Then jacked it up to where I wanted it and
measured again. I removed the springs myself and brought them in with
  the measurements. ...
