Re: pushbutton cable adjust

I got brave and removed mine and did thorough cleaning which helped but mine weren't sticking. Factory service book has shifter unit on pages 60-61. There are some adjustments they talk about too. Maybe you just have a bent slide pin? IF you do remove the unit be very careful when you undo the nuts that keep in in place. The studs are easy to brake. Maybe use pb blaster and don't force anything. The felt is easy to replace. Saw it somewhere online and can't recall where. Felt can be had at fabric store and use exacto knife to cut the holes out. Not sure if this is on the same subject or refers to the same problem, but only the Drive Push Button on my 64 Polara does not stay engaged when pushed in.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with that button?
If repair needed does anyone have instructions? Someone told me that I needed the felt repaired?
I did buy a shop manual on CD, but it is not very easy to navigate. Maybe I should have bought the reprinted manual?
Thanks
