I don't think a third of the cars were Mopars. There were rusty old junkers, 4x4's, and Mom's Buick smoking the tires
and stinking the area up. I don't blame the Mopar owners for not wanting some A-hole sliding his POS into the side of the
car he just spent hours and countless $$$ restoring either. I wouldn't be surprised if the cops shut the whole thing down
for next year. I won't go back there again. It's always been you could spin your tires a couple times and the cops didn't car, but
these idiots were doing long smoky burnouts 5 feet from the crowd. Never fails, every time you find something good, someone
has to come along to screw it up!

While the unit was down I did a massive search for Mopar junk yards. Found a bunch and sent a email to all of them looking for the different things I need. Hopefully somewhere there's a dash pad and emblem!! Gotta be!! Wish me luck!

Below is a review of the latest addition to the 1962 to 1965 Mopar Swap Meet Page.

Reminder: In the past I sent this "heads up" notice about the new ads to Clubhouse members as soon as I put the ads on the Swap Meet Page.

Now I post the listings here first, then upload the ads to the Swap Meet Page a day or two *after* they get listed here.

Thus Clubhouse members get a longer "first shot" at the listings as a membership perk. :)

Use http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/swapmeet2011.html to see the swap meet.

As you know my engine is setting on a stand waiting to be completed. Gary
has sent the heads and they will arrive on Thursday. So my plan is to degree
the cam tomorrow by using a lifter in place and using the ratio multiplier
to verify lift. This will be a tad iffy since the ratio will most likely not
be the full 1.5/1. My current rockers turned out to be 1.38/1. So I'll use
1.4/1 as a generic number. Then after setting the cam per specs the best I
can I will complete the short block. I will then install everything possible
back in the car. When the heads arrive I will complete the installation in
the car. This will give me 1 or 1.5 days to have it ready for the Parade on
Sat morning. Since the only changes are heads and valve train there will be
no break in necessary except for the cam. I won't have much tuning time so I
hope it'll co-operate for the Parade. If you want to really test your
cooling system then drive in a parade. It is brutal. Chugging along at 2mph
and extended stops in 80-100deg weather will push things to the limit.

    Wish me luck :-)

Do you suppose my wife would notice a pair of headers stuck in the oven? It
wouldn't be a first around here :-) I think I will just have to try the
VHT. I have had great success with the 1200deg Dupli-color paint on the
engine and components. I can only find the 500deg stuff now. As I recall my
headers ran about 400ish deg.. I have to break in the new cam so it gets
seniority over the headers. We'll see how the heat works out. Thanks for
    your input.

The only time I play doctor and prescribe medication is when I try it on myself and can show results. Very seldom will you hear me say I know a guy that did this or that.

Success in any paint job is the preparation, we all know that. Our old engines retained their paint with an added protective layer of grease, oil and dirt. Times have changed, we car owners now for the most part keep our engine compartments and what's in them clean and shinny for cruising and shows. Back in the 60's we cruised everyday, sun, rain, snow, but never opened our hoods to show spectators. Engine paint has also changed with the times, no matter what color it is, it's now "enviro friendly green", as well as the primers they require, unlike the "Red Lead" we used in the Navy.

I had been having a problem with my Max Wedge, the right valve cover started blistering next to the Max Wedge exhaust manifold. Unlike those who run headers I can't remove the valve cover without removing either the exhaust or intake manifold, also a plus with adjustable rocker arms when you need too...you know what. I've seen 383's & 440's all with HP exhaust manifolds also blister the paint on right side valve cover and the heat riser area of the intake manifold. All with the new and improved Mopar engine paint. I tried a repair with Dupli-Color 500F Ceramic Engine enamel, blistered the first day.

A heat gun showed my exhaust manifolds to be 743F right side and 740F left. My cure was to us VHT Very High Temperature 1300-2000F Header Paint on my valve cover, first using matching primer after preping. I brushed painted the valve cover in place and also made .015 aluminum heat shield, no more problem. This paint works when cured as per instructions. Bake at 250F for 30 min. and let cool for 30 min. Bake at 400F for 30 min, let cool for 30 min. Bake at 600F for 30 min. and let cool. My bake temperature was the temperature coming off the exhaust manifold. With a heat gun the recipe was easy.

BTW, I know a guy, LOL, there I've said it,  that had his MW exhaust manifolds ceramic coated inside and out. Reduced heat and no paint blistering on his valve covers, I've seen it last for years.

    Rich,

My TTI headers were installed on my old engine in July 2005, and were c-coated from TTI as were yours. The headers had some scratches, stains etc. and were repainted and installed on the new engine in July 2010, driving the car since Sep. 2010 they look as good as the day I painted them. I used Eastwood Silver High Temp Coating Part #10175Z, heat up to 1200F. You know my engine, it works, that's it. Photo attached of painted headers upon installation.

My TTI's have taken quite a bit of abuse over the last 5 or so years. Besides being rubbed raw they are quite stained from misc oils and other fluids. I don't want to spend $250 to have them recoated and mainly the timing would be an issue. I already have lost all the season so far and don't want any more slow downs. I am planning to clean them as best I can with acetone and then use the VHT header paint in a similar silver color. I was thinking of the stainless steel paint I used on the intake and front cover but that stuff is three times as expensive as VHT and is rated at 400deg whereas the VHT is something like 1500deg..

I know header paint has always been an issue but I want something to work NOW and it can be redone on the next build in a couple years. Anybody with previous experience?

I have a big roll of tin foil. I can build an extension :-) A few weeks ago
I could've just set it in the driveway!

I paid $250 to have my center insert re-chromed. I am in the Seattle market so things tend to be more expensive here.
I did the repainting myself. Difficult, but I learned a lot. Finding the paint is easy, the masking is the hard part.Mine looks very nice now!
When I find another chrome frame I will have it re-chromed to finish it off.

I have a 1991 318 in a Dakota with a cracked head. Anyone have the
interchange data on what year heads I can use? I have been doing
Google searches and it looks like 91 may be the year heads changed and
the 318 went to roller cam. Going to be hitting the junk yards soon.

If anyone has the info please respond directly to me and keep it off
of the 62 to 65 board.

    Thanks

I had and aftermarket, Mr Gasket, t-stat housing that was warped and caused
my t-stat to freeze up partly open. It was a similar scenario and quickly
escalated to incredible temps. I almost wrecked a new motor because of that
chrome piece of s***. Might be a thought. I really wouldn't think the
radiator should cause a negative effect like you're seeing.

 Topic: 440 heads
    MO <micher@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Aug 13 07:37PM -0700 ^

Thanks Dodger! that was exactly the formula I need and it is easy to
use. I got my numbers together and plugged them into the calculator

I was surprised to find that the stock 1978 440 engine came out to
    8.85 : 1 Comp ratio I thought it was 6.2:1

Then I figgered it with the 516 closed chamber heads and it was
9.43:1 ratio Both were with .018 compressed steel head gasket. .. I
think I will be real satisfied with that ratio. Thanks
    again!.......................MO
