I junked a '56 chevy one time that had no interior
in it at all. I was towed by another car with a chain. The roads are
very steep here with plenty of sharp curves. We didn't even get out of the
neighborhood before we were going up a hill and the tow car was going around a
bend. I just got the wheels turned the wheel the right when it came off in
my hand and I went over backwards as somehow there was no nut holding the
steering wheel on.
The wheels on the '56 were turned all the way to
the left and would return straight and the '56 started to skid. I was
trying to get up off the floor and yell out that the steering wheel came off the
car. I was very hard to get up so I just started to yell as loud as I
could and they hear me and slowed down and stopped.
Another car got stuck in third gear when I took
someone to the Pittsburgh Airport in my diesel VW Rabbut. Try pulling out
in third gear and try cruising in third gear at 55 mph for 40 miles. Can't
downshift to slow down much. I guess getting stuck in third gear was
better than getting stuck in 4th or 5th gear.
