Re: hot starting & fuel?

If he has a Carter carb he needs a Carter fuel pump, probably 5/16" lines with about 6 lbs. of pressure. Or a stock MOPAR equilevant. He is getting too much heat under his hood when his motor is running. His fuel probably is boiling, giving him "vapor lock".

Either that shield or a combo of a better cooling system too should help get rid of the problem. Or maybe the best Carter fuel pump set up for 230 gallons per hour at Jeg's or most anywhere on the cheap for what it is and the shield will do it. Go the cheapst way first. Maybe 3/8 line from at least your fuel pump to your carb with the better fuel pump. Maybe the carb needs tuned. Could be lots of things and people have offered all good solutions. Sooner or later one will work, if it hasn't already.

Subject: hot starting & fuel?

I'm starting a new subject topic. Jacob had asked about delayed starting when his 1964 Chrysler engine is hot.

Modern "gas" is designed with fuel injected systems in mind.

I'm wondering if that fuel pump heat shield Don, Nick and Rich have reported on is something Jacob should consider?

Thanks,
Gary H.

...Its got 110k miles. Fires right up.... when the motors hot it takes a second to start. Usually If I just keep it cranking it'll fire. I haven't done a tune up yet since I bought it...idk if that's the problem but I hear something about gas boiling off. Maybe y'all can help me or steer me in a direction. Thanks!
