Re: Info on easy engine ID for Max wedge etc

Are all of those head castings closed chamber? What about the 915
casting?

> Hello, Richard.   I hope this info helps you at least somewhat.  The 413 Max Wedge engines were truck blocks.  The truck blocks had an extra 5% nickle in the metal of the block.  The block, if it was going to be a Max Wedge, had to have the edges of the cylinders notched to clear the bigger valves in the Max Wedge heads.  All of the truck blocks and all the Max Wedge blocks have the same numbers on them.  Here's what I found out after doing some research for you on the web. The last bit of info I found tells you where on the block to find the numbers.

I took it home and put it in the corner of the shop, and forgot about it. This weekend I started tracking the numbers on the block and looking for some info. The numbers are 1852029-2 with a AAQA 3R. From what I find they say this is a Max wedge block. It has the valve reliefs too. Does anyone know about these motors and what they are worth? Is it worth a decent build?

I guess it's complete. He also found a 1ton Dodge Van with either a 383 or 440. He said he couldn't get to the numbers on it.

He is considering removing the heads if that's the case. Personally I think he should probably take the whole thing? What is the concensus with the rest of you?
