A bad condenser will cause the coil to overheat. Knocks out voltage to the points.

Gary, if you have points have you checked the gap. . It could be the points rubbibg block has worn down and decreased the point gap. Also corrosion of the point contacts will cause problems. Sometimes good looking points can just have to much reistance. I used to have a dwell meter that would tell points resistance.
