Re: Dog dish or no dog dish, that is the question

This is really peaking my interest. Where would I guy go/contact to find out the truth on the DD caps? What is really getting me is, I don't think I have seen two '64 cars with the same style on it. And why wouldn't the dealer brochure at least have a picture of a car with a set on it, or at least the style of DD cap that was available. It seems to me that with some of the real picky people that can tell you that a phillips head screw was not used in a certain hole, that there would be someone that could tell which is the right cap or wheel cover for the '64 Plymouth.

I do not recall the 64 Plymouth DD, but the 65's are very similay to the 64 Dodge but with a little black accent paint. I did see a survivor 65 Plymouth A-990 car that had the 64 Dodge caps on it, but they easily could have been changed at some point. I have 2 sets of 65's and 10 sets of 64's.

Thanks

All hub caps I would believe, came from the factory IN the car as based on the trim package ordered and was installed at the dealership during the new car detailing prep work prior to displaying or new owner pick-up. Don't know which one is the right one but I've been told that some DD caps even though they look the same, some were made from stainless steel while others were aluminum. Aluminum for the light weight drag race cars maybe?

I'm having a nice discussion on another email group about the '64 Furys,
Belvederes, and Savoys coming from the factory with dog dish hub caps. I
know that police cars and government cars had them, so I was thinking it was kind of an identification thing. I now have seen pictures of some cars with the DD hub caps. I have a dealer brochure, and it does not show anything but
the full wheel cover. Does anyone have any other information that would
clear this up. I don't want to tell anyone that they don't have factory
hubcaps, I am just curious of how this works. Was it factory installed, was
it dealer installed, or was it an after market owner installed.
Another thing, It seems that not all the DD caps were the same. I saw a
police car with a plain cap with about a four inch circle on it. Then some
looked like the caps from a 70 Duster. So if it is factory, which one is
right?

Thanks,
Dooner
