I've been following the issue of poor starting as my /6 is the same. Here is what i have tryed. 1 vaccum check on all lines. 2nd 3 different brand new fuel pumps. 3rd 4different ignition setups. 4th Clear stand pipe at fuel inlet to carb Conclusion, none of the pumps will hold todays fuel in the line. The valves just won't hold fuel, with a clear line acting as a stand pipe they just let run back to lowest point. Ever notice that if you park a certain way it starts better after sitting. Only solutions are, electric pump, one, one way check valve , or electric shut off valve in line. I'm about to find a 12 volt valve and use that ,works as anti theft too. Doug B.
