Hard starting

My 63 Polara 500, 383, 4 barrel Carter AFB, has trouble starting when
it sits for several days. It always goes eventually but takes 20 or
30 seconds of cranking. A little research (see link below) suggests
that modern gas evaporates quickly and the carburetor bowl evaporates
through the bowl vent. They suggest priming the bowl through the vent
with an eye dropper. Does this make sense? Is there any kind of gas
additive that would help prevent evaporation?

As always, thanks.
