Yes our Mopars at least into the 80's have the lines to the front coming from the rear of the master, and etc.  And the larger chamber is meant for the disc system as the calipers use a larger volume of fluid.  Possibly that master cylinder does have a residual valve in the outlet for the drum side (smaller reservoir), which would cause the problem.
