Pretty sure you'll have to change carriers. You didn't say if you have a Sure Grip but with a 440 & nitrous you'll definitely need one. Don't make the same mistake I did. Trying to save a few bucks I had a used set of gears that I had a mechanic put in my chunk. Apparently new gears will have numbers stamped on the pinion to help with the setup. The used ones didn't. He said he had the gears in and out about 30 times trying to get the preload right and the bill reflected it $$$$$ I could have saved money buying new gears. Paul L. I checked my parts book for 1965 Dodges, etc. At the top of the page for the differential sections it states that the number on the yoke would be one of the following for V-8s. 1820 657 or 2070 741 would indicate a Pinion Shaft diameter of 1 3/8" 1634 985 or 2070 742 would indicate a Pinion Shaft diameter of 1 3/4" I quickly located the numbers on the drivers side and they read 2070 741. So much for running a good load of Nitro with Hydrazine! Question is can I get back in the game by switching to an 1 3/4" shaft in the same carrier by using a smaller bearing or do I have to go to a new carrier with 1634 985 or 2070 742? I priced a new carrier from Moser, complete set up, and it was a shocker. Hoping to buy just a larger shaft. I appreciate the info you gave me on the drum breaks.
