Don, was the wiped out cam a flat tappet or a roller? And what type
of oil were you using? Any ZDDP additive? There sure is a lot of
debate about these newer oils and
additives..............................MO

Subject: Drag Strip Results
Took the Belvedere to the drags for the first time this year. I've
did an
engine rebuild after wiping out two cam lobes. Went to a .545 lift
Camp Cam
shaft.
Performance was okay with a best of 12.5 and 107mph. Best 60 foot
was 1.80.
Funny thing is that the last 1/8 mile was pretty consistent at 4.6
seconds for
runs from 12.95 to 12.50 - didn't matter. Still got a way to go to
get to sub 12
second run or even beat my personal best of 12.40 at 110.
One problem still there is that it seems to run out of gas over 5000
rpm in
first gear. I can run second gear to 5700 and going through the
traps at 5300
showed not fuel starvation. Work around was to shift to 2nd at 5000
and to
third at 5500/5700. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge but it seemed
to stutter
pretty bad so that's my guess. Have I called it right? Might be too
lean or an
ignition problem although the latter seems unlikely given the 5700
rpm shifts
later in the run.
