Re: Flywheel cracks

It probably depends on how you use it. . I wouldn't take it over 5500 RPM. I had a stock flywheel (chebby) that had the stress cracks machined out, explode at 6500 RPM. VERY scary. Holes in the floor and a chunk out of the corner of the frame. That 7500 RPM miss shift the day before might have stressed it a tiny bit! Young and dumb and you know the rest.............................MO

I would say go for it, the machinist, unless warning you not to use it,
put his shop on the line by turning it for you, if he thought it were a
problem, he would have not turned it, really doubt that the heat checks will
be that much of a performance loss

Sorry for the blank post. Here's what I meant to ask: I just had my
bigblock flywheel turned to install a new clutch and there are some
small heat cracks in it due to the old clutch slipping. There'ye not
bad, but do you guys think it's still useable? The car is a 64 Polara
with a warmed up 426 wedge, 4-spd OD and 3:91 gears. I thrash on it
regularly, but it will probably never see the track. The machinist said
it wasn't that bad and turned it, but didn't charge me. He didn't say
whether he'd use it or not.
