I don't know about the tire discoloration, that sounds somewhat like a defective manufacturing issue?

But the 1962 880 with 14 x 5 1/2" wheels used 800-14 tires. The wagon used 850-14 tires on 14 x 6" wheels. 
215/75R14 seems more realistic to me than 195/75-14. 

If you change your mind and want bigger tires the Chrysler 300 used 760-15 which is about 225-75R-15. You'll need the steel wheels and your hubcaps will be no longer usable though.
