Re: unlocking pistons?

Hi Kevin

You sir are a legend.
I just went out to the garage, and checked where the oil filter goes, and yes, there are 2 holes, as well as the large threaded part that takes the filter. 1 hole has the correct thread for the plug, and the other hole is just smooth, and smaller than the threaded hole, I guess it would be either for "drain back" for the filter or "pressure side" for the filter?

So thank's to you, but sadly for your expensive engine rebuild, we have found a place for 1 threaded plug.

I will screw that in tomorrow.

Now, all I need to do now is find a home for the other plug.

Im off to bed now, it's 11 30 pm here, and im up at 5 30 am for work.

Thank's
Jim

Hi,

I cooked a poly after overhauling by not putting in the plug behind the
oil filter adapter. Check where the oil filter pie plate goes. You
should find a threaded hole.

I did not know they existed and when I got the block back from the
machine shop, they had installed the plugs at the rear of the block and
there were no extras laying around to search for. I put the engine
together and ran it. When cold, it ran good.

Once the engine got warm, it would quit with low throttle and not start
until the engine cooled off.

I took the engine out and pulled it all apart to find every bearing in
the engine shot.

When I took the engine back to get bored out, the manager looked at the
block and asked "who took out the plug at the oil filter?". I gave him
the deer in the headldight look and he then said "if that plug is not
there, the engine will run when cold and once hot will act like it was
seizing up". Exactly the symptoms I had.

Anyway, there may be two threaded holes at the oil filter area.

Please let us know what you find.

Regards,

K.

Hi David

There are 4 the same size, and 1 bigger plug, these have a female square

hole for a rachet or some sort of a square bar to fit into.(smaller than
3/8
but bigger than a 1/4 inch drive rachet?

Now I have fitted the 1 bigger plug and 2 smaller plugs into the back of
the
block (where the flywheel goes).

The other 2, I cant find anything with a thread to screw them into.

I must add that the block also has 2 very small different type of plugs
next
to the engine mounts (1 each side), but as I say, they are very small
and
are already in the block, I think they are water valleys?
These 2 plugs are not the problem, and they can be screwed in with a
shifter
or spanner.

So I have 2 screw in plugs that are of the female type to find a home
for....lol

Thank's
Jim

What size are these plugs? Are all 5 the same size? Might they be ¼" NPT

pipe thread? Don't know for sure but might there be ¼" NPT threaded
holes,
one on each side of the block into the water passages? Some folks put
petcocks in there. Like Chebbies? > To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx
