1963 Dodge max ID?

Hi all,

A guy I know was wondering if this vin would help identify a 1963 Dodge he is looking at and it's heritage as a factory race car. 

623212690x  (Last digit left out; I can find it if needed.)

Anyone know if this vin falls within the range for a real '63 Max Wedge car?

The claim is that this 1963 Dodge was always a race car since new and originally was a 426 Max powered car. (It has a 440 in it now.) There is no fender tag on the Dodge.
