Re: 8.75 rear question

the cheapest & easiest way to change over to the newer slip drum, is to get a 65 to 70 B body rear (drum to drum) and install it. It's a straight bolt in swap.  The more desireable rears are 65 to 67.   they are a couple inches narrower.

On a similar 8-3/4 question; (one I've wondered about for some time), is the nutted drum, '64 back housing adaptable to be used in a regular axle/slip on drum configuration? I've got several '63-'64 rears I just never could toss out since I thought they had to be good for something; but if it's cost prohibitive or not worth the trouble...
If they are reconfigurable how does one go about the changeover proceedure?  I remember reading one time that the brakes from all Mopar rears were interchangeable: does this mean that one could pull stuff off a 8-1/4 or a 9-1/4 and expect it to work on a        8-3/4?  I'm sorry if this seems like a newbie-type question but it's one I've never got a satisfactory answer for.

Yes the sure grip unit is interchangeable between all the cases, 741,
742 and 489, just the gear sets are not interchangeable.
