Never experienced a gear drive first hand, but does sound kool from the cars I've seen and "heard". Yea, I'd guess they could become annoying after a while though. I "hear" the gears are straight cut gear teeth which is what gives them that sound. On the other hand, I also "hear" there are helictical cut gears available too which is supposed to make them much quieter. True?
