There are some tests you can do to the carb to help figure if it is needy of rebuilding: see http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Troubleshooting.htm and for a more comprehensive carb troubleshooting manual you can download one here:

Did you replace everything on the list first, then have the timing chain fail? Assuming you put the new timing gear/chain on correctly, not off 1 tooth, too.
