trim work

I have a polara 500 and want to remove the machine swirl insert from and 
extra piece of side trim and one from the car and swap them out.
Has anybody tried this by heating up the adhesive? If so how and with 
what kind of success. Also what type of adhesive is recommended to 
reattach.
