Geezer Drags-The rest of the story





Rich Kinsley '64 Dodge Polara 4dr 318poly w/goodies

OK I gotta 'fess up. I ran 6 passes. The first was against a guy I've 
met many times with his homebuilt little roadster. It kinda looks like 
the old Excaliber or maybe Dusenberg. Kinda smallish and running a 292 
6cyl Chevy with a 4 barrel, etc.. He wanted to race me the first round 
for practice as he thought we'd be competitive. He was right, we were 
relatively close. I beat him 10.44 to 10.67. Next round I raced a bad 
'69 Dodge who turned a 7.55 to my 10.41. These runs were practice. Then 
I had a solo run which was a 10.25.

When the racing started I was matched up again with the same roadster 
and beat him with a 10.25 to his 10.58.

Run #5 amazed me. I was up against a nice little white Pontiac. I think 
it was a 64 Catalina. I beat him handily with a 10.34 to his 11.54. 

Then I had a long period of about 1.5 hours before I ran again. My 
engine was very cool and I had to get up to the line pretty quickly. The 
class I was in was small block, street tires, flag start. That included 
400 blocks and even stroked ones. Some were 427 "small block" Chevies. I 
got matched with a nice '56 Chevy with some stroker. When we pulled to 
the line I was too cold and didn't realize it. When the flag dropped my 
engine died instantly from 8 barrels of cold air dosing the fire. RATS! 
He didn't take off either so they let us line up again BUT my timer was 
running! Anyway when we took off he blew me away with a 8.69 to my 
(choke) 36.49. I think I should've gotten the award for the longest time 
of the day :-) Could'a used an egg timer.

Well it was fun! I was disappointed in that I thought this was running 
well enough to get into the 9's now. (Remeber we're talking 1/8th mile.) 
It was much better though but I did have a 10.16 on the day I raced Paul 
in '07. I had a 10.28 against him to his 10.12. (He'll do MUCH better 
now I know.) 

I'm gonna hit up some Test and tunes for awhile and try to get this 
dialed in better. The driverside bank runs richer than the pass bank for 
one thing. The antique manifold has a divider seperating the sides. So 
I'm going to start tuning each side a tad different and see how that 
goes.
