If there's enough room, two nuts tightened together at the top of the stud, and back it out of the carb using the bottom nut. That way, if its the wing-nut thats stripped, it can be cut off and you can still use the stud.

Else, if planning to replace the stud, or you know the stud is stripped, vice grips work just fine.

I have the orignal air cleaner for my 64 fury. When i put it on last i tighten the wing nut too tight. No it's stripped, is there an easir way than taking the carb off? I'm not planning on using the air cleaner again, i'm getting a crome one.
