Well next step would pull plug wires on each cylinder while running, and see if noise goes away that would narrow it down to the offending cylinder, if in fact you did spin a rod bearing. It is hard to trouble shoot with out seeing & hearing what's happening first hand. You say you hear the noise on every rotation of the engine even before it starts? Hopefully it isn't the bolts holding the flexplate to the crank. The only advantage to GMs is you can loosen the converter, push it back and see a loose bolt. With a torqueflite it entails a mirror a light and luck. My 64 Dodge has a rebuilt engine that I installed last year. Whenever you try to start it, sounds like a thumping sound once every rotation. The car starts and idles fine and good power, but when it is running it has a knocking sound. I can hear it better on the right side of the engine. The motor has a good 45# of oil pressure at all times. Other than the sound it seems to run good. I'm just afraid I might be destroying the motor. Any ideas where to look??? I did take the valve covers off and everything seems ok there.
