It's the lean condition that causes the heat issues. Thats one of the first things you learn riding a Harley. Increase the air intake, and open up the exhaust and you fry your legs. Thats with just two cylinders. Pour more fuel in it and it cools right down. Not great for fuel mileage, but there's always a trade off, right ? Do TTI headers run thinner wall pipes than say Doug's or Hooker? Sounds like way more heat than I ever had with big block Mopars with headers, and on some with lots of Horse Power. I had a '63 with a big block, dual fours, lots of cam ect. Hooker headers on that one and no heating problems. Had several 440 late 60's B body cars with headers, that never gave trouble either. My '63 ragtop is a big block, with a not crazy cam, but not stock either but runs 69 383 manifolds. It does alot of town cruising (slow) with the same radiator it had with the original 361, no problems so far. (it's a 31 year old build). You must have a real radical Poly in that thing. Is it bored? If so, did you get too close to the water jackets? Hows the water flow through the block if you hook up a flush hose to the heater hose? Something just doesn't seem right for a small block to have that much heat, unless it's very radical. Hope I get to see it sometime, as we're not all that far apart. Maybe I'll make the geezer drags sometime.
