Re: Rotella & diesel oils?

Shell Rotella had been recommended because it had Zddp additives. This additive is needed for the type of friction found in flat tappet camshafts. The powers that be said zddp was not good for the environment and since most engines are now roller tappets --it needs to go. Shell was one of the last common oils to have it, and now their zddp is reduced.. Lots of controversy as to if there is enough for us flat tappers. There is an additive called Zddplus which can be added to whatever oil you prefer. I use Valvolene 10-40 because it is formulated for gas engines and is readily available. Zddplus has a website with some very good information about the use of diesel oils- racing oils and synthetic oils. check it out and see if their spin makes good sense to you. Costs about $9 per oilchange and is in concentration enough to last till next change. They are based in Calif. but have distributors around the country...................MO......sw iowa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary H." <spigot2039@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Subject: Rotella & diesel oils?

I know Shell Rotella diesel oil is favored here by several people for our Mopars. Any reason why not to use another brand of diesel oil? For example, Auto Zone has Castrol Tection Extra 15x40 Diesel oil on sale for $10 a gallon right now.

Thanks,
Gary H.
