Generic valve lash query

I'm sure it takes more time but is there any problem with just working
on one valve at a time and just turning the crank around until you find
the area of most gap at the valve and adjusting it there. Then keep
turning it and checking to make sure you don't get more gap anywhere in
the cycle. Time consuming but at least you're doing something
interesting. Can a dial indicator check the gap accurately too? Just
wondering.
