Re: Insurance

Bill is correct that Grundy does not have mileage limits and is an "Agreed Value" policy. They just require that you have another vehicle for regular use and that you're not using the car as a daily driver. I was with Hagerty for years until I bought an A-100 van that Hagerty wouldn't insure and switched to Grundy. Whatever you do make sure your policy is "Agreed Value" Many regular insurance companies have "Stated Value" policies which are almost useless if you have a total loss.

NY allows us to register a vehicle with Historical plates or Year of Manufacture plates if it's at least 25 years old. Both registration types require that your insurance card states "Historical" on it. For Year of Manufacture you must have an original NY plate of that year (or both plates if 2 were used in that year) You send DMV a picture of the plate(s) and they check to make sure that number is not being used on any other vehicle.

Not that I go to DE but I guess that cop and I would have a problem. In NY there is no other plate that you carry with you if your car is registered with YOM plates. There's also no expiration date on the plate. The expiration date is on the window sticker along with the year, make, body type, and vin # of the vehicle and the plate # that's it's registered under.

I BELIEVE that Grundy does an "agreed" value policy, AND they do not
have mileage limits...although most companies do.

The "year of manufacture" plates (what MD calls them) vary by state. I
think some states will not let you use them...PA? Every antique car I
see from PA has a special antique car plate.

In MD, you register the car with historic plates, then you pay $25 to
have your YOM plate piggy-backed onto your registration. You have to
carry the regular historic plates in the car, but can display the
YOM's at all times in the car.

SUPPOSEDLY there's some a-hole cop on DE that will pull over an
antique car from MD (or any other state) that it displaying he YOM
tags and make them change the tags before continuing down the
road...caiting the fact that the tags displayed are expired. I don't
know how he can do that since the setup is leagl in the state it's
registered in, but I'm just waiting for him to do it to me...he'll get
quite the ear full!!!
